Adult Beginner Kickboxing
Kickboxing is recently enjoying a fair amount of attention from the fitness and health industry. The idea of using martial arts as a workout has become popular enough to create terms such as boxercise. We have to admit – it’s far more enjoyable trying to hit a target and perform techniques than swivelling or walking on a machine for an hour.
Kickboxing is an easy sport to pick up. Most places that teach kickboxing emphasise correct technique and improving your fitness. After all, if you are performing your moves properly, you are burning energy. Entry level beginners will find it as easy as learning dance moves although perfecting them is another matter. Kickboxing employs many varying strikes that are sure to use every muscle from head to toe. If done correctly, it will test flexibility, strength and endurance (cardio).
Finally, because kickboxing trains so many parts of the body, it offers plenty of opportunities for cross-training. Not only does it improve fitness but kickboxing also trains attention, reflex and recognising an impending attack. It is useful for other contact sports like rugby and football as well as non-contact.
It's very important to find a place that is suitable for beginners. You don't want to train where there are meatheads around as it can get very intimidating for you. Don't fall for the titles that the instructors may have on display. They got the titles because of the fights they had, not because of success in their teaching. Being a good fighter is a bonus for the instructor but the instructor needs to have a very communication skills. Also the instructors need to understand the students' needs so they can arrange the daily programs accordingly.
